Description

The project Vani-Coop - Promotion of the rights and skills of vanilla growers in Uganda, aims to improve the socio- economic conditions of vanilla growers in Uganda through the enhancement of professional skills, access to innovative technologies and infrastructure, and increased knowledge of local and international markets. The project adopts a multisectoral strategy that, through the synergy among various profit and non-profit actors from Italy and Uganda, aims to: ● Improve the productivity and post-harvesting techniques of the involved cooperatives through professional training in the agri-food sector and the enhancement of processing means and infrastructure available. ● Foster the creation of international networks, the exchange of knowledge, good practices, and virtuous models in the agricultural supply chains and the consortium sector through meetings between local and Italian companies and cooperatives. ● Promote safety and health at work and counter the use of child labor in all phases of the supply chain. The total duration of the project is 36 months and will reach a total of over 22.000 beneficiaries in the Mukono, Kasese, and Jinja Districts. The project will pay specific attention to female and youth employment in the vanilla supply chain, particularly in its production and cultivation according to sustainability criteria and respect for environmental and workers' rights. The project is presented by the organization Associazione Gruppi “Insieme si può...” ONLUS ONG in partnership with the local organization Insieme Si Puo Ltd - ISP in Africa, Makerere University represented by its Agriculture Institute of Research MUARIK, the Ugandan not for profit organization VANEX, the Italian benefit company ETIFOR, a spin-off of the University of Padua, the social cooperative "La Casa dell’Uomo," representing Confcooperative Belluno and Treviso, and Costa Family Foundation Onlus. read more close
