The project No sta pronto pa inova: dual training and digitisation for new employment perspectives in Guinea Bissau, as indicated by the title, aims to bring together, at an international and local level, actors who are ready to bring innovation to a crucial sector, for a country composed of a very young population, such as technical and vocational training, in order to stimulate economic, inclusive and sustainable growth, employment and decent work for all in Guinea Bissau (GO). The challenges that the country faces, both in economic and social terms, in order to increase employment and decent work are many, but among these the lack of an effective and inclusive education system, which limits opportunities for personal growth and economic development, fuelling a vicious circle of poverty and social hardship, is one of the main ones. This is why the intervention aims to increase the number of people, especially young people, women and people with disabilities, with the necessary skills, especially technical and vocational skills, to foster employment and decent work and to develop entrepreneurial capacity (SO). In fact, VET system is in a state of great fragmentation and ineffectiveness, caused by three main factors: mismatch between the skills of young people and the demands of the labour market (economic-institutional dimension), obstacles limiting access to VET (social dimension), the low quality of vocational training (training dimension). For the first dimension, it is intended to decrease the mismatch between labour market demands and the skills of young people trained by the local VET system (R1): the whole partnership will work to activate a fruitful dialogue between public, private and VET centres, through working groups and ad hoc training for public officials, VET centres’ managers and teachers and private sector representatives. A number of enterprises will be strengthened in financial, training and international exchange terms to improve the local business environment, and job placement systems will be activated in various areas of the country not yet covered by the service. At the social level, through information campaigns and social inclusion initiatives in five regions of the country (SAB, Cacheu, Bafata, Gabu and Bolama), specific measures will be activated to mitigate the obstacles that limit the training and job placement of individuals at risk of marginalisation (R2). The involvement and strengthening of CSOs in the area will be fundamental to the achievement of this result and adequate local ownership. Finally, the training dimension envisages increasing accessibility to quality VET for a greater number of people, even in remote areas. The project proposes a pilot intervention in the Guinean VET sector geared towards the adoption of the dual system, with the implementation of in-company apprenticeship, which includes the training of managers and trainers of VETs and entrepreneurs who will host young students in apprenticeships. With the introduction of digital systems, dual training courses will be implemented in Bissau and the other four intervention areas, where the training offer is particularly lacking or absent, bringing the quality of the regions' VET to the standards of the capital. In conclusion, No sta pronto pa inova represents a significant step towards the creation of an inclusive and efficient training system in Guinea Bissau, promoting decent employment and sustainable economic growth.
