The project will start with the conservation of selected natural environment for sustainable tourism development through. This will include some interventions including selection of four sites feasible for natural heritage conservation, arranging consultative workshop to research consensus with residents, afforestation of selected sites, promoting it, and zoning and protection of the conserved sites for its sustainability. In this regard, the local people, Italian Development Cooperation Agency, Tigray Culture and Tourism Bureau (hereinafter referred to as TCTB), other relevant bureaus and professionals will be consulted for its successful implementation. Restoration of selected heritage sites fill be another focus of this project. A participatory approach will be adopted to interven in 4 built heritage sites for restoration, restoration design and bill of quantity will be determined, restoration materials will be identified and purchased in collaboration conservation experts and the local people. Finally, the actual restoration of wall paintings, and other defects identified will be carried out by relevant conservators. Then, it will be promoted for wider tourist access and appreciating the contribution of the Italian Development Cooperation Agency in saving the intervention sites. Developing pro-poor rural tourism business in the site is highly demanding. Thus, suitable locations for homestay, community lodge, hiking and trekking route development, and stopover facilities will be identified with the help of GIS and remote sensing and heritage and tourism experts. Tourists and local guides will be consulted for proper identification and development of these services.
