Description
The main purpose of the initiative, coordinated by the Applicant (Fondazione MAGIS - Movimento e Azione dei Gesuiti Insieme per lo Sviluppo), is to support the population belonging to the Christian minority in Sri Lanka, promoting a process of reconciliation between the various ethnic and religious communities, in the post-war period, which is based on the activation and development of an educational program and specific interreligious dialogue. The project intends to support the social and cultural activity promoted by the local Partner: The Trustees of Society of Jesus in Sri Lanka. The project strategy, which aims to address the difficult access to quality higher education and lack of social cohesion in the post-conflict period, includes the following: - the enhancement of the teaching activities of the University Campus (Loyola Campus), which incorporates, in its teaching, the themes of dialogue, peacebuilding and reconciliation in Sri Lanka. - support for the Tulana Cultural Center/Library, as a center for gathering and meeting young people from different religious backgrounds, for the development of interreligious dialogue. The results chain (logic of the action), identified during the feasibility study, is formed as follows: -Specific Objective (outcome to be achieved at the end of the project): “Representatives of different religious faiths, students of the Loyola Campus and the Tulana Research Center and members of the community actively participate and promote interreligious dialogue and the processes of peace and social reconciliation by bridging the gaps of misunderstanding and conflict and forms of discrimination present in the planning area.” The Expected results, which will enable the achievement of the SO, are: -R1. Young people in situations of vulnerability and discrimination have access to quality higher education, in which the concept of reconciliation/interreligious dialogue is present across the board in all courses. -R2. The Tulana Research Center promotes and manages interreligious dialogue activities, especially involving young people and the members of different religious faiths, who work together for common goals such as social justice, humanitarian efforts, and community development. Achieving the Specific Objective will contribute to the long-term impact defined by the call, "Supporting Christian communities, through responding to basic needs, protecting rights, promoting socio-economic inclusion, fostering reconciliation and interfaith dialogue." Planned Activities: Result 1: Organization and Planning of Loyola Campus academic courses; Higher level academic training courses for local youth; Training meetings (refresher and orientation) of Loyola Campus professors. Result 2: Interfaith roundtables; Interfaith workshops on social issues; Youth exchange meetings on interreligious dialogue; Interfaith art and music festivals. Direct beneficiaries: -Youth and young adults, from disadvantaged communities, who will participate in the Loyola Campus Courses; Professors from the eight centers of Loyola Campus who will participate in refresher courses/workshops; Students from rural poor areas who will receive scholarships. -Participants (youth/students, general population, scholars/community leaders) who will participate in interfaith dialogue activities
