Description

The initiative focuses on the mental health sector and psychosocial disabilities in Jordan, and aims to contribute to improved services for people with psychosocial disabilities. It envisages a review of the “National Mental Health Action Plan” and the “National Mental Health Policy (2011)”. Activities includes: • A high-level visit of health sector officials to the “Azienda per i Servizi Sanitari n.1 Triestina” in the province of Trieste, Italy, in order for the Jordanian officials to witness first hand the process of change and transformation from a medicalized mental health hospitalization process into a community-inclusive rights-based approach. The aim here is to learn and reflect on the Italian best practices to be adopted the Jordanian context. • Capacity development programmes for health and social workers on right-based approach skills, behavioural change and use of informed consent, as well as for Organizations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs) and Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) on peer-to-peer support and inclusive services within the local community. • Rehabilitation of three mental health care clinics at the Princess Basma hospital of Irbid. • Training of health and social personnel selected by the MoH and HCD and already trained on mhGAP (Mental Health Gap Action Programme). • Development of an informed consent form for patients and families, development of standard operating procedures (SOPs) and training of health and social workers from the 3 selected clinics on the use of the form and the SOPs. • Organization of workshops by local associations, aimed at people with psychosocial disabilities, and disabilities in general, to strengthen their social inclusion at community level. read more close
