Description

The project aims at contributing to the improvement of the condition of women in rural areas in the regions of Scutari and Alessio (Shkoder and Lezhe), located in the most remote areas of north Albania. Due to geographical, historical and socio-economic reasons, the rural population is distributed in villages and communities characterized by high poverty and a high rate of emigration. In these regions, largely characterized by marginal and mountainous areas, economic income is mainly based on agriculture. The farms are small, run on family basis and with low yields. Although women are the majority of the workforce and are those who primarily contribute to the familybudget, they suffer from deeply rooted gender stereotypes that limit the role and the rights of the women in rural areas. They don't have monetary recognition or insurance coverage, are often denied the right to inheritance and property, as well as the access to credit. Theinitiative will intervene on two priority axes: 1) Recognition of the role of women in rural areas by promoting the culture of women's rights and the gender mainstreaming in the economic activities of the agricultural sector and rural development; the participation of women in decision-making processes and the inclusion of a gender perspective in the strategic documents at local and regional level. 2) Support the empowerment of rural women and women led entrepreneurship by facilitating access to information on property rights, inheritance and access to credit. read more close
