Description
Following the implementation of initiative 0012739/01/0 “Consolidation of the Milan Urban Food Policy Pact (MUFPP)”, this proposal constitutes a Phase II follow-up aimed at further strengthening the MUFPP as the main global platform for decentralized cooperation on urban food policies. Launched by the City of Milan as a legacy of EXPO 2015, the MUFPP currently brings together over 330 signatory cities worldwide, all committed to transforming urban food systems in a sustainable, inclusive and resilient way.The overall objective is to contribute to the promotion of urban food policies, particularly in development cooperation contexts, in line with the 2024-2026 DTPI and SDGs 2, 11, 12 and 17. The specific objective is to strengthen the MUFPP’s capacity to support cities located in partner countries, through a more effective offer of technical assistance, training, city-to-city exchanges and networking, and stronger joint positioning in key international fora. The main target groups are local administrations of signatory cities (and potential new members), with a specific focus on partner countries and their officials involved in urban food policies. The intervention logic is structured around two mutually reinforcing axes: (i) strengthening and expansion of the MUFPP city network, through promotion of the Pact and support to the adhesion of new cities in partner countries, the implementation of structured training and technical assistance programmes, peer-to-peer exchanges, missions and study visits, as well as the development of technical and methodological tools, publications and feasibility studies to support urban food policies; and (ii) joint positioning of MUFPP and AICS in key international fora, networks and platforms on food systems, with particular attention to showcasing the experiences of cities in partner countries and capitalizing on results through policy and knowledge products. The initiative, lasting 36 months and with a total AICS contribution of EUR 600,000, is implemented through an Agreement with the City of Milan, in continuity with Phase I. It responds to AICS’s need to consolidate an urban approach within its development cooperation strategies and recognizes the MUFPP as a key instrument for the localization of the SDGs at city level, while at the same time acknowledging AICS as a strategic partner for expanding and qualifying the MUFPP network in cooperation contexts.
