Description
The initiative, of a total amount of €2.5 million, represents an earmarked financial contribution to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) for the implementation of the "Too Big to Fail" program, which is an integral part of the ICRC's Syria Appeal. The "Too Big to Fail" program aims to stabilize the operation of the seven major water plants in Syria through a series of urgent routine and extraordinary maintenance interventions, to be carried out sequentially from 2022 to 2026. The intervention strategy is based on a preventive approach to avoid infrastructure collapse, without including provisions for reconstruction. The rehabilitation of the water infrastructures will help reducing waste caused by damages and malfunctions and minimize environmental damage associated with emergency water distribution practices.
