Description
The initiative is structured around two results: the first aims to strengthen the participation of the community system in the delivery of integrated services, improving first access through the training of community health workers and the creation of consultation platforms with local leaders (R1.A2), and the implementation of community-led health campaigns, developed with the support of the University of Rome Tor Vergata (TVG) and local stakeholders (R1.A1; R1.A3; R1.A4). TVG will conduct operational research producing evidence on models for delivering integrated community services and on the effectiveness of integration at health center level for PLHIV, publishing the results and sharing them with local health authorities (R1 – OECD DAC 13040; 12250; 12110). The second foresees the improvement of access to integrated services in health centers: strengthening of the skills of health personnel with a disability- and gender-sensitive approach (R2.A1), reinforcement of diagnostic capacity (R2.A2), introduction of one-stop shop models for HIV/TB/NCD (R2.A3), and strengthening of adherence activities (R2.A4) (R2 – OECD DAC 13040; 12250; 12110). The approach aims to ensure effective care, centered on the specific needs of each patient. The direct beneficiaries will be PLHIV in the three counties, with particular attention to vulnerable groups, as well as health and community personnel and local leaders, who will acquire skills on community monitoring and service integration, and the operational research conducted in collaboration between ACAP, DREAM Kenya Trust, and TVG. The initiative will be implemented with a participatory and evidence-based approach, adopting a multi-stakeholder model that involves health centers, community actors, and County Health Departments. The goal is to promote the long-term adoption of integrated models and the sustainable strengthening of the health system in the fight against HIV, TB and NCDs.
