Description
The "Photovoltaic Rural Electrification Project in Niger – Departments of Illela and Keita" is part of a broader state program for photovoltaic rural electrification in the country promoted by the Ministry of Energy, which is being executed by the Nigerian Agency for the Promotion of Rural Electrification (ANPER) and which aims to increase the rate of access to electricity in rural areas from the current 0.93% to 10% by 2021. Regarding the project's intervention area, in the Tahoua region, the rate of access to electricity is 4.2%, with significant disparities between urban areas (24.4%) and rural areas (2.1%) (Source: Plan Directeur d’Accès à l’Electricité au Niger 2019-2035). Access to energy is a need of fundamental importance for the socio-economic development of this region. The specific objective of this funding proposal is to enhance national energy resources through the installation of photovoltaic or hybrid solar systems in the departments of Keita and Illela (Tahoua Region) in Niger. The proposal therefore provides for the electrification of four villages in the two departments where 2 mini-grids will be installed benefiting a population of 6,370 inhabitants (or 910 families) and the electrification in 94 villages through solar kits (50 school kits, 50 kits for health centers, and 25 pumping kits for irrigation) benefiting a total population of 189,006 inhabitants (or 28,208 families), of which 96,120 are women
