Description
The present project focuses on patient victims of the conflict in Ninewa governorate in need of physical and mental rehabilitation. The overall objective is to improve access and quality of mental and physical rehabilitation services for victims of the war in Iraq. The intervention will consist in two main components: a) physical rehabilitation activities will strengthen the referral system for amputees between Mosul and Sulemania Rehabilitation centres and at the same time increase technical capacity of health personnel through trainings and coordination between major rehabilitation centres in north Iraq; b) mental health and psychological support activities will focus on outreach services and increasing technical capacity of Dohuk directorate of Health to monitor, promote and coordinate MHPS services from primary health centres to secondary and tertiary structures.
The overall strategy of the project is to integrate a short-term humanitarian assistance in a longer term approach, aiming to meet the urgent need of durable solutions for victims of the conflict and supporting resilience and institutional capacity development.
