Description
Contribution to the Bilateral Emergency Fund with IFRC for the year 2025 to support emergency appeals and response funds launched by IFRC in response to climate related hazards. IFRC protect women and girls from GBV.The refinancing is necessary following the strong earthquakes of magnitudes 7.7 and 6.4 that struck central Myanmar, with an epicenter approximately 17 kilometers from Mandalay, the country’s second-largest city, creating a severe humanitarian emergency. To respond to the crisis, which risks further impacting already fragile contexts, it is proposed to provide a contribution to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) through the financing of an EBF. During 2024, the Fund had already been activated in the region following Typhoon Yagi. It was also used to respond to the crisis in Syria, in Zambia to address increasing humanitarian needs caused by the country’s drought emergency, in Ethiopia for the protracted crisis in Tigray, and finally in Brazil and the Sahel following flooding, for a total amount of €8,900,000. The Fund has since been used again for the Syrian crisis, and the current positive balance amounts to €100,000.
