Description
Contribution to the Bilateral Emergency Fund with IFRC for the year 2024, to support emergency appeals and response funds launched by IFRC in response to the climate related hazards in West Africa. IFRC protect women and girls from GBV. The refinancing is necessary following unprecedented rainfall that has caused over one thousand confirmed deaths and hundreds of thousands of displaced people, creating a severe humanitarian emergency in the area that includes Mali, Niger, Chad, Cameroon, and Nigeria. To respond to the emergency, which risks exacerbating already fragile contexts, an emergency contribution is planned in response to the regional emergency appeal launched by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC). During 2024, the Fund has already been used to respond to the crisis in Syria, in Zambia to address increasing humanitarian needs caused by the country’s drought emergency, in Ethiopia for the protracted crisis in Tigray, and in Brazil following the floods in Rio Grande do Sul, for a total amount of €3,700,000. The Fund’s positive balance amounts to €2,300,000.
