Description

The project CASA (Cooperation for Learning Service) takes place in the municipalities of Treichville, Cocody, Anyama, and Koumassi in Abidjan, Ivory Coast. It aims to provide concrete solutions to the widespread educational poverty at the national level by creating an educational alliance among local actors (Government Institutions, local CSOs, business networks) and primary and secondary schools (both first and second level) with the goal of expanding access to inclusive education and maximizing efforts to reduce school dropout rates for at-risk children. The project partnership is composed of FADV (leading NGO), VIS (Italian NGO), Salesians of Don Bosco – REMAR CI – NGO Femmes de Valeurs, RESAFEL, Ecole Pratique de la Chambre de Commerce Ivoirienne (EPCCI). It also boasts partnerships with the Ivorian Ministries of Women, Family and Children (MFFE) and the Ivorian Chamber of Commerce (ICC). The intervention lasts 36 months and reaches a total of 11.730 direct beneficiaries. The overall objective, in line with the UN SDGs 4 and 8 and the guidelines of Italian Cooperation, is to contribute to improving the Ivorian educational system in order to provide all children and youth with quality, equitable, and inclusive education and training that generates opportunities for social inclusion and well-being. The main strategy of the project, as outlined in the specific objective, is to create an educational alliance between the different local entities and 20 schools, aimed at promoting a school model that qualifies education as learning, focuses on transversal skills, embraces digital transformation without losing sight of gender issues and the needs of students with disabilities and special educational needs, and offers the most vulnerable youth concrete opportunities for academic, social, and professional growth based on equality and equity, in line with the Ivorian government’s Plan Sectoriel Education/Formation 2016-2025. The alliance model, emerging globally enhances the continuous learning perspective of the partnership, networking and educational projects within-and-between schools and the private sector, and the development of work plans and public policies for increasingly concerted inclusive education. The intervention focuses on three main components which reflect the expected results, such as: 1. Improvement of local governance and implementation of an infrastructure adjustment plan for schools. Actions include: i) creation of Municipal Working Groups; ii) establishment of Community Managers; iii) infrastructure adjustments in schools (WASH and energy efficiency); iv) Launch and modernization of digital laboratories, IT classrooms, vocational training workshops, and strengthening of the Koumassi Deaf-Mute Children's Center and the Special Classes of Anyama Remar’s school. 2. Reduction of school dropout phenomena (failures, repetitions, and dropouts) and illiteracy. Actions include: i) specific teacher training on effective teaching methodologies and digital education pathways for students; ii) reinforcement programs for students’ disciplinary skills in preparation for the next school level ; iii) educational projects for parents, students, and teachers to impact health, environmental education, and respect for differences; iv) co-designing educational pathways for students with teachers, focusing on transversal skills and career orientation (PCTO); v) basic literacy courses for non-schooled individuals. 3. Enhancement of school-to-work transition mechanisms (reduction of mismatch) with the adoption of professional training opportunities for youth in high-demand sectors. Actions include: i) student mobility between Ivory Coast and Ghana as part of a training program on renewable energy; ii) introduction of new vocational courses at EPCCI; iii) internships for students; iv) professional training for female students in business management. read more close
