Description
The project was conceived as technical and scientific support to the AGEBASM initiative (Appui à la Gestion du Bassin Aquifère Sénégal-Mauritanien, AID 013320), to assist the institutions responsible for managing the groundwater resources of the Senegal-Mauritanian Aq uifer Basin (BASM), namely OMVS and OMVG, by strengthening their scientific and technical capacities. The objective is to enable staff to autonomously manage information flows and to develop governance strategies based on solid data. Effective management requires hydrogeological, geological, and geo chemical knowledge to assess the quality and quantity of resources, identify recharge and drainage areas, reconstruct circulation path ways, and analyze interactions between groundwater and surface wa ter. This information makes it possible to develop conceptual basin models, design monitoring systems, and prepare potential mathemat ical models. The key objectives include: technical support and capacity building for the collection, management, and analysis of hydrogeological data, as well as the promotion and strengthening of partnerships with univer sities, research centers, and international institutions (IAEA, UNESCO IHP, UNECE, IGRAC).
