Description

The initiative contributes to the Syria Humanitarian Fund (SHF), a country-based pooled fund managed by OCHA under the leadership of the Resident/Humanitarian Coordinator (RC/HC), as part of the ongoing transition towards a unified fund supporting the entire humanitarian response in Syria. The SHF operates according to the Country-Based Pooled Funds (CBPF) model, ensuring the timely, flexible, and efficient allocation of unearmarked funding to implementing partners – including national and international NGOs, UN agencies, and the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement – in response to the most urgent and severe needs of the Syrian population. The strategic priorities of the fund include: -Humanitarian support to displaced populations and vulnerable host communities; -Support for safe and dignified returns to areas of origin; -Rapid response mechanisms to address new emergencies or displacement. The allocation strategy meaningfully integrates gender, disability, and inclusion dimensions, ensuring equitable and dignified access to essential services while promoting community participation – particularly of women, children, persons with disabilities, and older people. Funded interventions include activities across the sectors of protection (including prevention and response to gender-based violence), health, education, food security, WASH, nutrition, shelter, early recovery, and humanitarian mine action, with a strong focus on resilience and the strengthening of local capacities. read more close
