Description
The initiative involves strengthening physical rehabilitation services in Gaza by the ICRC, the main local provider of prosthetics, orthotics, physiotherapy, and mobility aids. The goal is to ensure a comprehensive continuum of care, from pre-hospital assistance to post-operative rehabilitation, including psychological and social support. The intervention includes reinforcing the Artificial Limb and Polio Centre in Gaza, establishing a mobile prosthetics workshop in Rafah, and supporting three hospitals (Indonesian Hospital, European Gaza Hospital, Al Amal Hospital). The ICRC will provide medical devices, technical support, training, and staff incentives. A mental health program for people with disabilities is also planned, offering group and individual counseling sessions, social activities, and support materials. Additionally, a new database will help monitor amputations and permanent disabilities to enable more targeted interventions. The initiative aims to significantly improve the quality of life for people with disabilities in Gaza, promoting their social inclusion and autonomy.
