Description

The Project aims to upskill artisans and establish a structured, cascading system for skill transfer and application to support the conservation of cultural heritage sites in Côte d’Ivoire, Egypt, Kenya and Tunisia. By leveraging the expertise of Fabbrica di San Pietro, knowledge from institutions in the four target countries and the capacity building efforts of ICCROM, the initiative will train craftspersons and artisans in traditional and modern techniques, preparing them to apply their skills effectively in maintenance and other complementary activities for the conservation of heritage sites, while also training others through the Training of Trainers multiplier effect. This collaborative effort aligns with the programmatic priorities set out by ICCROM and Italy’s Mattei Plan, focusing on education and training. It also contributes to Sustainable Development Goal 8 by promoting inclusive economic growth and youth employability, Sustainable Development Goal 5 by including women in craft traditions and Sustainable Development Goal 11 by making historic cities resilient and sustainable. The project emphasizes sustainability through enhanced skills development and knowledge transmission, as well as periodic maintenance strategies, reducing the long-term financial burden on institutions.
