Description

The initiative, lasting 36 months, aims to promote sustainable irrigated agriculture to enhance food security and increase agricultural productivity to meet domestic food needs, gender inclusion, and environmental sustainability through reforestation, water resource management, and soil conservation in the arid and semi-arid regions of Eritrea (Maekel, Anseba, and Gash-Barka). The main objective is to strengthen agricultural resilience and address the challenges posed by climate change by improving food production and farmers' incomes, with a special focus on women and youth through 1. The implementation of solar-powered irrigation systems to optimize water use; 2. Training and technical support for farmers to introduce climate-resilient agricultural practices; and 3. The creation of water user associations for the sustainable management of water resources. The target areas include nine villages located in three regions. Approximately 1.120 households, approximately 4.626 individuals will directly benefit from the project through access to irrigated land and training programs. read more close
