Description

The “Inclusion and Development: training and Work for young people, women and People with Disabilities in Malawi” Initiative aims to improve vocational training and employment opportunities for young people, women and people with disabilities in the districts of Chiradzulu, Dowa, Mzimba and Thyolo in Malawi. The intervention aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda, in particular SDG 4, SDG 8 and SDG 9. The general objective of the initiative is to contribute to encouraging lasting economic growth, inclusive, sustainable, full and productive employment, and decent work for all in the three Regions of Malawi. The specific objective is to ensure full and productive employment and decent work for young people, especially women and people with disabilities, in the four target districts. The Initiative was designed in response to several needs and problems identified in the target districts. These include limited employability skills and technical and vocational training opportunities, low awareness of existing programs, environmental and economic vulnerabilities caused by excessive dependence on subsistence agriculture, the lack of support mechanisms at the end of training courses, strong geographical and gender barriers, the poor inclusion of people with disabilities and the insufficiency of community support networks. The Initiative therefore aims to achieve two results. The first result is the strengthening of the capabilities of technical and vocational training (TVET) service providers to offer inclusive access and quality services that respond to the real needs of the labour market. Activities include the revision of the national technical and vocational education curriculum, the promotion of inclusive gender-sensitive and labour market-aligned TVET curricula, as well as the establishment and promotion of an internship programme. The second result instead focuses on strengthening the employability and entrepreneurial skills of 3,000 people (60% women and 5% people with disabilities), also supporting them in accessing business services. Particular attention will be paid to young people, women and people with disabilities. The activities planned to achieve this result include the development of an upcycling and recycling program in the textile sector and the creation of industrial partnerships. It also entails the training of instructors and participants in different economic sectors with high demand for work and technical and entrepreneurial skills, the provision of paid internship opportunities for 500 young people, supporting start-ups and entrepreneurs, facilitating apprenticeships for young people, women and people with disabilities, and promoting inclusive vocational education and training for women and people with disabilities. The partnership, which involves a local partner such as DAPP Malawi, represents a crucial element for the success of the initiative. DAPP Malawi, with years of experience in the sector and recognized as a leading non-governmental organization in the country, has deep knowledge of the local context and a proven ability to trigger systemic change. The combination of DAPP Malawi’s expertise in training and strong roots in local communities ensures that the Initiative not only responds to immediate needs but also creates long-lasting and sustainable impact. read more close
