Description
ChANGES originates from the convergence and complementarity of the experiences and competences, both sectoral and technical-methodological, of the Temporary Association of Scope between ACRA, COSPE and DEAFAL, with RSR, UNIMIB, and the local partner FONGS, a key organization for agroecology and farmer support in Senegal. In line with SDGs 2, 12, and 15, the project aims to ensure the right to healthy and quality food for all by promoting the nexus between environment, nutrition, health, and work in Casamance, Senegal (OG), and developing a sustainable and inclusive agro- Allegato 2_Modello Documento Unico di Progetto_DUP_Bando Promossi 2023 7 food system in four departments of the Ziguinchor and Sedhiou regions (OS). In a context characterized by climatic stress, unsustainable agricultural use, low agricultural productivity, the project proposes a holistic strategy for structuring inclusive and sustainable agro-food systems, strengthening resilient, high-nutritional-value horticultural and cereal crops. The 36- month projectincludes three strategic intervention areas, reaching a total of 10.209 people: 1) Support to local agricultural production, improving the environmental, economic, and social sustainability through: innovative agroecological practices, efficient water management technologies strengthening of the capacities of target GIE and improvement of the training curricula of professional centers. 2) Developing participatory governance of agro-food systems through support of local authorities in adopting sustainable food policies, development of advocacy actions; assisting agro-food producers in agricultural biodiversity conservation and community management, supporting the propagation of local genetic resources. 3) Strengthening market health, enhancing the traceability, commercialization, and circularity of agro-food production in the cereal and horticultural sectors through technical support in storage-processing-conservation-commercialization processes, and financial support through a community credit system, enhancing traceability and valorization of agro-food products promoting interventions to ensure market health and supporting the development of circular organic waste management systems. The project strengthens the role and leadership of women, and promote the development of a local and diversified food system based on sustainable agricultural techniques. It also promotes strategic Italy-Senegal synergies through know-how exchanges, best practices, and commercial partnerships for promoting Senegalese agroecological products in Italy. The synergistic work with civil society actors, second-level networks, institutions, and local authorities will create a strategic dynamic to ensure sustainability, community ownership, and local endorsement of the initiative.
