Description

This initiative implemented by UNHCR will take place in the Palabek settlement in the Lamwo district, in the Acholi Region of Northern Uganda, where more than 100,000 refugees live, including 83,000 Sudanese. The intervention aims to ensure that refugee populations and host communities in the Palabek settlement have access to quality health care, with particular attention to women's rights, to reproductive health services and assistance for victims/survivors of gender-based violence (GBV); and to improve the nutrition of households in the beneficiary area through a more appropriate diet, access to food and a better income. The project will benefit from the skills and capabilities of two Italian CSOs, CUAMM and AVSI, which have been implementing interventions in Northern Uganda for years to strengthen health system services and access to food, food security and resilience of rural households in collaboration with local authorities. The Initiative is part of international intervention strategies in response to the humanitarian crises in South Sudan and Sudan, such as the South Sudan Regional Refugee Response Plan 2024 and the Sudan Emergency Regional Refugee Response Plan 2024, and aims to ensure refugees' access to basic services and at the same time strengthen national systems in view of the transition process, in line with the commitments shared by the Ugandan government and partner agencies to achieve the objectives of the Global Compact on Refugees (GCR) and the Comprehensive Refugee Response Framework (CRRF). It will also promote the inclusion of people with disabilities in communitylevel activities related to improving nutrition and access to food and subsistence, as well as the prevention, identification and treatment of disabilities. read more close
