Description
The grant will be provided to the Energy Community, an international organization that includes Ukraine and the European Union and manages the Ukraine Energy Support Fund. The grant will finance the most urgent needs of Ukrainian energy companies, such as equipment, spare parts and other technical components, as well as fuels and services needed to repair infrastructures and maintain the supply of energy and heat in Ukraine. The project is essential to 5 support Ukraine's energy security and to ensure the livelihood of the Ukrainian population. In particular, the project will enable the Government of Ukraine to ensure continuous energy supply to the population and businesses across the country and the stability of the national energy system. In doing so, the initiative will align with the Energy Community’s decision of 2022 to adopt energy and climate targets for 2030 to reduce primary and final energy consumption, accelerate the adoption of renewable energy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions to achieve climate neutrality by 2050. While in the case of Ukraine, ministers will review the targets and quotas after the end of martial law in Ukraine, this initiative will, where possible, prioritise actions that reduce emissions by promoting the use of renewable energy, with a view to mitigating climate change and environmental protection.
