Description

The initiative is designed as a second phase of a previous intervention (PEDAKOS - AID 011860) in support of the Kosovar Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation (MESTI) in the implementation of the pre-school education component of the National Education Strategy. The development of a quality early childhood education system accessible to all is currently one of the top national priorities of the Partner Country, with a view to strengthening local human capital in a crucial segment (0-6 years) for the sustainable development of future Kosovar generations. The local Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation represents the counterpart and the line authority for both the identification and implementation of the intervention. The intervention integrates and acts synergically with the main international support programs for the sector (World Bank, EU, UNICEF), addressing two related issues: 1) the low quality of existing pre-school services; 2) limited access to the aforementioned services by children and families. According to the World Bank, the lack of access to childcare services is one of the main obstacles to Kosovar women finding, obtaining and maintaining a job. The initiative was born following the request of the Kosovar MESTI and with the full support of the Italian Embassy in Pristina. It aims at increasing opportunities for children in Kosovo to realize their human capital potential by providing inclusion and equal access to early childhood education (Strategic Objective 1 - Early childhood education of the National EDUCATION STRATEGY 2022-2026), in order to enhance child education and to reduce unpaid care work and promote the economic empowerment of women. read more close
