Description
The initiative, promoted by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), aims at protecting and assisting people affected by armed conflicts, abuses and violence, by restoring or maintaining their livelihoods; providing prompt and adequate health and food assistance, while ensuring that the rule of law is respected. ICRC will pay particular attention to the most vulnerable people, which includes migrants, children, women and people with disabilities. The ICRC will facilitate family reunification to enable members of families dispersed by armed conflict, detention or migration to restore or maintain contact. Furthermore, the ICRC will inform families of the death of relatives in clashes or along the migration route. Measures will be taken to ease prison overcrowding, ensuring that prisoners are assisted, and their judicial rights are respected. In addition, prisoners will be assisted to enable them to return home when released. The ICRC will promote good hygiene practices in order to prevent and limit the spread of hygiene-related diseases. Moreover, the ICRC will support health facilities in order to facilitate the access to adequate and free healthcare and physical rehabilitation. In collaboration with local authorities, the ICRC will install water points to increase water supply in rural and urban areas of the Diffa region and in border areas, which are currently hosting large numbers of displaced persons and migrants.
