Description
The initiative aims to improve the housing conditions and increase access to green public spaces for the populations affected by the Beirut explosion. The project is composed by two components: 1) House rehabilitation component: After mapping and coordinating with other projects, 10 to 15 residential buildings will be identified and then evaluated in order to be rehabilitated. They are located in the vicinity of the railway station of Mar Mikhael inside the area affected by the explosion of the port of Beirut on 4 August 2020. 2) Creation of a green public space component: it consists in the upgrading of the non-operational railway station to become a green public space in consultation with all stakeholders, including the community. The project is implemented in partnership with the General Directorate of Antiquities and the Municipality of Beirut. The funds allocated to UN-Habitat Lebanon are of Euro 2,300,000.
