Description

he project will support the consolidation of E4Impact Accelerator that was established with support from AICS two years ago. Moreover, it will increase the range of activities and improve the physical facilities of the centre. The business centre will have a separate double function as an accelerator and incubator in Nairobi and it will support the start up and the scaling up of local SMEs (30 accelerated and 10 incubated companies for each year of implementation). SMEs will be selected according to their potential social, economic and environmental impact and to their relevance to “Kenya Vision 2030” and Italian development cooperation priorities (agriculture, tourism, energy, sanitation, waste management, rural electrification, housing), with a specific focus also on the new digital technologies. Women and youth entrepreneurship will be encouraged. A new complementary intervention will be the development of an innovative centre on renewable energy within St.Kizito Vocational School which will comprise a mini-grid to be built in collaboration with Res4Africa for training purposes and the creation of an Innovative Energy Products space in collaboration with ENI. Furthermore, a revolving fund will finance the enterprises after the acceleration and incubation period. The project remains a pilot initiative in the field of partnership between academia, the private sector and public institutions (triple helix) to promote entrepreneurship and job creation in Kenya with a possible broader scope to Eastern Africa and Sub- Saharan Africa.
