Description

The initiative supports institutional capacity development within the Mexican penitentiary system through an integrated approach that includes intelligence, security measures, prevention of criminal infiltration, management of high-risk detainees, specialized staff training, and social reintegration. The intervention is aligned with key Sustainable Development Goals: SDG 16, which aims at promoting peaceful, just, and effective institutions; SDG 16.6 which aims to develop effective, accountable and transparent institutions at all levels; SDG 16.a which aims to strengthen relevant national institutions, including through international cooperation, for building capacity at all levels, in particular in developing countries, to prevent violence and combat terrorism and crime; SDG 4, which seeks to expand access to quality education and technical skills, including professional training for adult learners; SDG 4.4, which aims to increase the number of youth and adults who have relevant skills, including technical and vocational skills, for employment, decent jobs and entrepreneurship; SDG 10, which focuses on reducing inequalities and supporting reintegration pathways for vulnerable groups and SDG 10.2 which aims to empower and promote the social, economic and political inclusion of all, irrespective of age, sex, disability, race, ethnicity, origin, religion or economic or other status. By strengthening institutional practices and enhancing the skills of penitentiary personnel, the project contributes to a more stable, transparent, and inclusive environment within the justice and correctional sector. read more close
