Description

The IASSS project aims to strengthen the agricultural sector in Senegal, with a particular focus on the districts of Thiès and Bambey, and is fully aligned with the Mattei Plan for Africa, the 2030 Agenda (SDGs 2, 4 and 15), the Senegal Systemic Transformation Strategy (ST2S 2025–2029), and the Senegal–Italy Partnership Program 2024–2026. The three-year initiative seeks to enhance Senegal’s horticultural sector – with a specific emphasis on the tomato value chain – through three main components: 1. Improvement of productive infrastructure, including the construction of a modern multifunctional greenhouse; 2. Training of farmers, technicians, and researchers, both in Senegal and in Italy, through targeted programs and specific training modules; 3. Promotion of the tomato value chain as a driver of agricultural diversification and transfer of know-how. The operational partnership brings together Sapienza University of Rome, the University of Bambey (ISFAR), the Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT, and the Italian CSO ARCS APS, each contributing scientific, territorial, and operational expertise. read more close
