Description

Despite improvements and reforms in the region over the past decade, structural challenges and socio-economic hardships continue to drive an increasing number of people to leave Western Balkan (WB) in search of better opportunities. As a results, one-fifth of the population of the region now lives abroad, mostly in the European Union (EU). Through the proposed Project, IOM will support Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), North Macedonia and Kosovo, to create conditions for Diaspora members to fully contribute to sustainable and economic development in their origin country through two outcomes: 1. The first outcome will leverage Diaspora engagement to enable progress on the path to accession to the EU. To do so, the project will facilitate knowledge and institutional transfer between the WB4 and the EU, by strengthening the capacities of relevant stakeholders for diaspora engagement and implementing fellowship schemes on EU accession related thematic. 2. Through the second Outcome, the Project will also contribute to enhance skills and mobility pathways by mobilizing Diaspora institutions and associations for the development of the region. Under this Outcome, IOM will support partner institutions to access expertise from Diaspora members to advance sustainable development through knowledge transfer, exchange and mentoring activities. The project will also support cooperation between institutional partners, the business sector and Diaspora representatives to advance knowledge, policy and strategies on labour mobility pathways. The project builds of new and established partnerships in the region, the EU, Italy and beyond. IOM will work with authorities, private sector, civil society, education and research institutions, and diaspora organizations to create conditions for diaspora members to contribute to the sustainable and economic development in the region. read more close
