Description

The Project aims at enhancing resilience against climate change and promoting the social, environmental and economic sustainability of agricultural practices in ASEAN countries through the introduction of sustainable agriculture and agricultural mechanization solutions for Maize, Cassava and Sugar Cane supply chains. The General Objective is to contribute to the adoption of sustainable food production systems and the implementation of resilient agricultural practices that by 2030 will increase productivity and production, help maintain ecosystems, strengthen capacity for adaptation to climate change, extreme weather, drought, flooding and other disasters, and progressively improve land and soil quality in the ASEAN Member States (AMS). The initiative is harmonized with and contributes to the food security and agricultural development objectives of the ASEAN Guidelines for Promoting Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA) Practices; the ASEAN Regional Guidelines for Sustainable Agriculture; the ASEAN Economic Community Blueprint 2025; the ASEAN Comprehensive Recovery Framework; in the ASEAN Cooperation in Food, Agriculture, and forestry 2016 – 2025; the ASEAN Integrated Food Security (AIFS) Framework; and the Strategic Plan of Action on Food Security in the ASEAN Region (SPA-FS) 2021-2025. The initiative intends to provide a model that can be adopted and adapted by the ASEAN Member States to multiple agricultural supply chains beyond those targeted by this project, benefitting of the Italian know-how and technology, and the use of environmentally, user friendly and climate smart solutions. The project will be implemented by a Consortium composed by the Università di Milano – Dipartimento di Scienze Agrarie e Ambientali – Produzione, Territorio, Agroenergia (UNIMI-DISAA), the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna di Pisa (SSSA), and the Alliance of Bioversity International e CIAT (ABC). read more close
