Description

The initiative pursues a double objective: restoring access to legal assistance for people in need of international protection, status holders and beneficiaries of temporary protection, and facilitating access to income of both refugee and local communities affected by the earthquakes. More in detail, the initiative aims at supporting the Legal Clinics operating in the country that have been directly or indirectly affected by the earthquakes in southeast Türkiye. The earthquakes have severely impacted the legal assistance services provided by the Legal Clinics, in part due to an increase in civil law cases involving people seeking international protection, and also because of earthquake damage to the infrastructure: the Hatay Legal Clinic building had to be demolished following the damage, and the Malatya Legal Clinic building is unusable. Moreover, many of the staff need also to be accommodated as they have lost their homes. To allow the clinics to continue operating, material support is needed, including procurement of containers, equipment, furniture, and materials. The impact of the earthquakes has also been significant on the community and family networks on which many persons of concern rely for their sustenance. In the most affected areas, the majority of workers, including Syrians and other persons of concern, are employed low-value-added sectors. The International Labour Organization indicates that the earthquake has left over 658,000 workers unemployed. In this context, the initiative will provide on-the-job training and rapid access to income in municipal services and in the agriculture sector for both refugee and local communities living in the seven provinces most affected by the earthquakes as well as in Şanliurfa Province. read more close
