Description

Volontary contribution to the Secretary of the Union for the Mediterranean Secretariat concernicin, amonst others, reseach and innovation, climate change, environment, good governance. The UfM (Union for the Mediterranean) methodology translates the political dimension into concrete development projects to address the region's challenges. This methodology is structured into three components: political forums (ministerial declarations), dialogue platforms, and regional projects. Ministerial declarations define political objectives and mandates, which allow the UfM Secretariat to structure platforms for regional dialogue and cooperation. The UfM's action holds particular value in terms of collaboration between the North and South shores of the Mediterranean, fostering dialogue on the so-called "Mediterranean Common Goods." UfM activities concern three strategic objectives for the region: human and sustainable development, stability, and integration. These are pursued in six specific sectors: business development and employment; higher education and research; social and civil affairs; water, environment, and blue economy; transport and urban development; energy and climate action. The UfM has a cross-cutting mandate with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and carries out activities supporting the implementation of development projects in the region. Regarding development cooperation, the UfM is primarily engaged in the field of food security. Recently, the organization has been growing in role and impact, operating as a convener of actors from various levels and spheres – from political leaders to finance, business, and civil society – who are together capable of concrete actions to eliminate the root causes of instability. The funding and resources mobilized have benefited Italian stakeholders, for instance, by launching the advanced marine clean-up program "Plastic Busters" which is led by the University of Siena. read more close
