| vocab:Description_en | The project aims at enhancing gender equality and women's empowerment in Afghanistan by promoting and strengthening gender justice. The initiative follows the previous UNDP projects (Justice and Human Rights in Afghanistan Phase II from 2013 to 2016 and the Afghanistan Access to Justice from 2016 to 2019) in supporting justice institutions and the application of the Elimination of Violence Against Women Law (EVAW Law). The project will improve the technical and institutional capacity of the EVAW institutions including the Ministry of Women Affairs, Supreme Court, Attorney General's Office, Ministry of Justice and Office of Second Vice-President by delivering a robust national legislative policy that will benefit women and girls in protecting their rights. It will have three outputs: 1) National policy framework for adoption and implementation of the international standards on elimination of violence against women is strengthened; 2) EVAW institutions are strengthened to become more effective, accountable and gender responsive through targeted support and capacity building; 3) Women and girls are legally empowered on EWAV Law and received due assistance. The project will also support informal justice providers and relevant Afghan Civil Society Organizations to enhance the quality of the national public awareness on women's rights. The main activities will be: consultations at the central and regional level to review the EVAW Law; development of a) a commentary on the EVAW Law including guidelines on mediation, b) inter-institutional Standard Operating Procedure and c) a National Gender Justice Strategy; support to the EVAW institutions, including to the Anti-Harassment Committees; creation of a unified database on EVAW cases and activity related to legal awareness campaigns at the community level. The Italian contribution to the project, for a total amount of euro 2.850.000,00, includes the remaining funds of euro 850.000,00 from the previous UNDP project Justice and Human Rights in Afghanistan Phase II. |
