| vocab:Description_en | This project will help deliver the global agenda set out by the 10X20 Initiative. The overall project goal is to enable achievement of SDG 14.5, particularly in Small Islands Development States (SIDS). The specific project objectives are to support effective Marine Protected Areas (MPA) planning and management by making available tools and practical guidance and to support national capacity development, regional cooperation and global knowledge-sharing. It will deliver this through three components:<br>A. Stock-take, gap analysis and consolidation of existing MPA tools into a globally accessible user-friendly and practical ‘MPA Toolbox’ with new guidance on sustainable MPA financing and benefit-sharing;<br>B. Application and lessons-sharing on MPA planning tools among planners, practitioners and decision-makers of Caribbean and Pacific SIDS;<br>C. Communication on systemic and effective MPA strategies to regional and global high-level SDG fora<br>The immediate project Outcome is enhanced capacity of marine planners to develop and sustain effective MPAs as an integral element of national sustainable development planning. |
