Il governo ha lanciato una richiesta di cooperazione a cui il governo italiano ha risposto. Pertanto, la Cooperazione italiana al Cairo, il Ministero delle Antichità d'Egitto e l'UNESCO hanno accettato di unire le forze attraverso il presente progetto che mira a migliorare la valorizzazione dell'arte islamica in Egitto contribuendo alla piena riabilitazione del Museo, in particolare migliorando le sue capacità in restauro, conservazione, registrazione, raccolta dei dati e preparazione al rischio. |

It was heavily damaged on 24 January 2014 by a terrorist car bombing attack targeting the main security headquarters located in front of the Museum building. The government launched a call for cooperation to which the Italian government generously responded with a contribution of 800.000 Euros.
