Description

The project “NICE - Need for Inclusive Children Education”: family and school support programme for equitable and inclusive access to school for children living on the street and/or with disabilities aims to contribute to improving access to education among the most vulnerable children in Kenya, in particular girls according to the principles of the Global Partnership for Education (Sustainable Development Goal 4). Specifically, the project aims to ensure access to and regular attendance at inclusive schools for the most vulnerable children in the peri-urban districts of the three target areas. Thanks to the joint action of the four organisations, the project will intervene on two fundamental aspects to ensure the return to school and school attendance of the children targeted by the project: the family context and the school context. In order to reduce school drop-out among the extremely vulnerable children of Nairobi who live on the streets, Koinonia Community will focus on the rehabilitation of 250 children, who at the end of the project will be enrolled in school and reintegrated into a positive family environment. The household to which the child will be allocated will ensure decent living conditions for the childs proper development and will support the childs school attendance (Outcome 1). Cittadinanza Onlus will work to ensure the right to education to 500 children with disabilities, increasing access to rehabilitation services, encouraging the childrens families to come out of isolation and supporting them in building a resilient family environment (Outcome 2). EducAids action will focus instead on the school environment, supporting headmasters, teachers and public officers in adopting inclusive working methodologies able to improve teaching and school organization, which can enhance individual differences as a condition for the greater educational effectiveness of the school (Outcome 3). read more close
