Description
Since 2017, by adopting the Strategy for Accelerated Growth and Shared Prosperity (SCAPP 2016-2020), Mauritania has undertaken a major adjustment of public policies to revive its growth. In response to the requests of the member states of the G5 Sahel and Senegal, IFAD and other UN agencies are developing the regional Joint Program in response to the challenges of COVID 19, Conflict and Climate Change (SD3C), which involves the five G5 countries Sahel and Senegal. The 2P2M initiative is part of this regional program. The initiative, with the achievement of the 2 proposed expected results, aims to strengthen the resilience of the most vulnerable rural populations in the Sahel region in a sustainable way to mitigate the COVID-19 crisis, conflicts and the effects of climate change, based on the main technical-operational problems identified. In particular, 1. lack of agricultural hydraulic structures suitable for the various agro-ecological areas and/or adapted to the needs of livestock mobility; 2. impoverishment and fragility of soils exposed to water and wind erosion, overgrazing, silting, etc .; 3. poor access to appropriate agricultural techniques, technologies for the enhancement of ecosystems, animal nutrition and veterinary services; 4. inadequate agro-pastoral and pastoral technical assistance; 5. poor structuring and management of professional organizations.
