Description

The initiative has the objective to leverage Ethical Fashion Initiative’s (EFI, a flagship initiative of the International Trade Center - ITC) business model with its experience in managing structured value chains in Kenya to contribute to the development of small and medium enterprises and artisanal cooperatives with a focus on resilient growth, climate change and a more inclusive society for women and youth. Over the years, the business model has taken the shape of an international supply chain managed by a network of African social enterprises combined with an accelerator for African design enterprises. EFI is now sufficiently grown in terms of market size, international trade and investment partnerships, and is projected to further expand its original group of micro/small artisanal and design enterprises in Kenya. The project was conceived to contribute to Kenya's economic, social and environmental development through the creative and fashion industry value chain. This objective will be achieved by enabling women and young designers and artisans to participate in their respective national and regional markets and the international value chain of the lifestyle industry, by developing their skills, receiving investments in their businesses and acquiring new forms of support for product development and supply chain coordination. The outcomes of the project are in line with the specific objective of increased competitiveness and participation of Kenyan micro and small craft enterprises and designers in the international, regional and national sustainable fashion value chain. The project is in line with the needs identified by the Ministry of Cooperatives and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development and is fully aligned with the government's Vision 2030 which aims to transform Kenya into a newly industrialised, middle-income country, offering a high quality of life for all its citizens by 2030 in a clean and safe environment. Finally, the initiative is in full harmony with the new Team Europe Initiative "Investing in Young Businesses in Africa" launched during the Kenya- EU Business Forum in February 2023. read more close
