Description

The Initiative "Follow the Water: Environment, Culture, and Quality of Life for Global Citizenship Education" (ACQUA, in Italian) aims to activate multi-stakeholder educational communities that are engaged in the fight against climate change, for environmental protection and sustainable water management in a glocal and inclusive perspective. The Initiative is addressed to three main groups in the territories of the Municipalities of Rovereto, Cuneo and Mantua: ● Municipal administrators and officials, who acquire knowledge and skills on sustainable and inclusive development and on how to implement effective strategies of Global Citizenship Education, with a particular focus on tackling climate change and on the sustainable management of water and aquatic environments. ● Media, culture actors and civil society, whose capacities to integrate global issues and Global Citizenship Education in their cultural programming activities, dissemination and awareness on environmental sustainability is strengthened. ● Teachers and educators/trainers, who acquire stronger skills and knowledge on issues related to Global Citizenship and Sustainable Development. In 2021, on the basis of Mantua’s experience in promoting environmental sustainability by combining art, culture and civic participation, the three cities highlighted their need to pool and systemize their tools and existing policies in the framework of Global Citizenship Education. They also stressed their need to improve the Municipalities’ capacity to mobilize all territorial stakeholders that are involved in the fight against climate change, in protecting the environment and managing water sustainably, and to increase their self awareness regarding the change-maker role that they play as part of a a multi-actor educational community that can promote global citizenship. To pursue these Results, the Initiative provides for actions of a different nature, complementary to each other: Peer training and exchange to ensure that local public administrators, the media, culture actors and civil society, alongside teachers and trainers, acquire and consolidate their Global Competence, in the cognitive, socio-emotional and behavioral dimensions, and are able to act as an active part of an educational community that can fight against climate change and water protection in a glocal perspective. All the actors involved will participate in a community of practices that will allow them to reinterpret and give new meaning to their activities according to Global Citizenship Education, with a focus on climate change and sustainable water management. Participatory formulation of a Municipal Plan of Global Citizenship Educationinvolving multi-sector local working groups, together with the development of guidelines for the identification, creation and management of "Global Citizenship Presidia". Presida are places of cultural and civic activation that are open to all, have a focus on sustainability, carry out community actions, ask questions on issues related to global challenges stimulating a sense of belonging to a human community of solidarity, push to act locally and think globally to transform the present and build a more prosperous future for all, foster the participation of civil society in public debate and the formulation of decisions and policies, and that, in their doing, implement concrete measures to reduce environmental impact and to include disadvantaged people. The involvement of citizens through campaigns, cultural and public events, reaching more than 60,000 citizens: the Initiative provides for awareness campaigns around the issues of responsible water consumption in a global perspective, The activation of co-planning paths of cultural events recall on the three territories that integrate the core themes of ACQUA, as well as the animation of two editions of the Civic Week where schools will be the protagonists, integrating with the initiative promoted by ANCI, the Italian Association o read more close
